Abstract
Discusses the following consequents: is humanism a way of engaging with the world that involves a type of personality, a set of beliefs that may be taught, or a series of positions and principles, which follow naturally from culturally situated experience? How are evolving definitions of humanism related to the way in which humanists create knowledge about the world, and are there responsibilities that follow from experiential engagement with the world that are particular to the humanities disciplines, aside from their relationship with other disciplines?
