    Abstract
The article discusses the impact of the Nature of Science program on science education in New Zealand. The risk of having their subject disappear in wider school curricula is faced by science teachers if the program refers to the virtues of scientists. The assertion that there is a distinctive method in the province of science has provided strength in the interpretation of the nature of science as a reference to scientific method.
