The focus of the study is to explore a deeper understanding of the nature of governance and accountability in a self-defined social enterprise that has neither a defined 'owner' nor any dominant stakeholders. Governance and accountability in such social enterprises are exciting areas to explore given the 'self selecting' nature of their Board Members and their need to balance the tension between the delivery of their social mission and making money from entrepreneurial activities. The study will be presented as a qualitative, exploratory case study that is informed by a literature review and based on thematic analysis of data collected by way of the researcher's notes of semi-structured interviews with nine Board Members of Skylight. It is anticipated that, in a wider context, this study will contribute to knowledge on governance and accountability from an applied context in social enterprises that do not have defined and/or dominant owners and stakeholders. It will also facilitate the development of theory in these areas.
